Why tear it apart? Well, to make it mine, of course. There is stuff I love about it and stuff I don’t. So I’m going to remove the parts I don’t need, and modify the bits I don’t like.
I’ve looked at lots of blank-ish themes to use as a base for site design.
I’ve looked at Ian Stewart’s Thematic, Justin Tadlock’s Hybrid, Eliot Jay Stock’s Starkers, plus many others.
Thematic and Hybrid are just a bit too everything-but-the-kitchen-sink for me. For what they are, they are great. And I think the WordPress community is very much in debt to both those guys for furthering theme development. They just weren’t right for me.
As for Starkers, it’s way at the other end of the extreme. And way to empty for me. Stocks has some really cool designs out there, no doubt about it. But for me, Starkers is too stark.
Then comes Notes Blog. I’ve been reading Smashing WordPress by Thord Hedengren. The Notes Blog Core is discussed at length in the book.
At first, I loaded up Notes Blog Core really just to work on it as I read along in the book. However, I’m really getting attached to it. So I think I’ll tear it apart.
When I get done, I’ll post some notes about the process and modify this site theme with the new one.
Anyway, thanks Thord for the great theme, and the great book. And yes, I’ll post a positive review on Amazon. But I’m going to finish the book first.
Note: The link to Amazon is NOT an affiliate link. It’s not that I’m above affiliate linking, it’s just that Amazon and Colorado disagree on affiliates.

Thanks for the kind words and your post. Can’t wait to see what you’ll do with the theme!
